Miami Dolphins ten best players of the last decade
By Brian Miller
Cameron Wake
Cameron Wake went undrafted and spent part of an off-season with the Giants before being released and heading to the CFL. Jeff Ireland, in 2009, took a chance on the CFL standout and the rest as they say is history.
Wake spent 10 years with the Dolphins and made the Pro Bowl five times in that span and really should have been on that squad more. His 100.5 career sacks includes 2.5 sacks from the 2019 season, a partial year with the Tennessee Titans that was cut short by injury.
In his Miami career, Wake totaled 98 sackes and 358 fumbles. He also got his first interception in 2018, his final season with the Dolphins.
Wake was disruptive and held a lot in his 10 years as many will attest to. He was consistent in getting to the quarterback and setting the outside edge.
Ahead of the 2019 season, the Dolphins opted to not re-sign him as he headed into free agency. It is possible that he has played his final year in the NFL but he won’t make that decision until this year is over in Tennessee.
Afterwards, the countdown to his HOF eligibility will begin. Wake is not likely a first-ballot inductee but his name is going to gain a lot of traction in subsequent years and there will be plenty of debates regarding his inclusion. It’s a pretty good debate to have for such a great career.
Regardless of whether or not he eventually makes the Pro Football HOF, he will be in the Dolphins Ring of Honor at some point.
