Tanking for Tua – 2019

We can’t talk about controversy without mentioning the lead-in and first quarter of the 2019 season when the Dolphins set themselves up for a major rebuild and the national media called them out for “tanking”.

It was an ugly start to the 2019 season and while the rest of the year got better, it still didn’t help the Dolphins. Two wins helped squash some of the talk that the Dolphins were putting players in harm’s way, a comment made on national TV by Steve Young who chastised the Dolphins organization.

He wasn’t the only one. Mike Greenburg of ESPN called for an all-out investigation to the Dolphins organization after several top players were jettisoned for draft picks or because the Dolphins were willing to pay for future picks by buying and selling contracts in trades

As the year progressed the “tanking” mantra became more fan-inspired than anything else as the national media turned their attention to the winless Bengals.
