Number 5: Jason Sanders

Yes, the kicker made it into the top 5 and he absolutely deserves to be up here.

Sanders played very well this year, despite missing a few field goals and extra points. he finished the year 23/30 for field goals and 29/30 for extra points, earning AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors twice and AFC Special Teams Player of the Month for December. Oh, and he also caught a touchdown on one of the more exciting trick plays I had seen in a while.

Sanders was a great player last year as a rookie and looked to be just as good in his second year.

Number 4: Jerome Baker

Baker continues to impress on defense. Going into the season, he was expected to take a bigger leadership role and help put Flores’s defensive game-plan into action and, at least in my eyes, he delivered as well as he could have. Baker was always involved and rarely left the field for good reason too.

Baker’s sack numbers were a bit down this year (although his numbers weren’t great last year), but that shouldn’t worry anyone as it the entire team’s sack number were abysmal. Never the less, he finished with 1.5 sacks, 72 tackles and 2 forced fumbles. It just seemed that he was always involved in making the plays the team needed. Baker will be called upon again next year to lead this defense and I expect him to answer that call effectively.

Number 3: Eric Rowe

While the numbers aren’t eye-popping, I think everyone can agree that Rowe had an extremely positive impact on the Dolphins this last season. Rowe played all over the place for Flores’s defense throughout the year and was one of the most consistent players on the team. He only had one interception, but it was a fantastic one in week 17 in the upset win over the Patriots. He did have a 57% completion rate against him which is solid. Rowe definitely played well all season and was deserving of the contract extensions he signed to keep him in Miami for a few more seasons.

Number 2: Devante Parker

Parker was written off as a bust during the Adam Gase era. Oh, how wrong we all were.

Everybody that I spoke to believed that Parker was not going to amount to anything more than an injury prone player with athleticism that just didn’t turn into anything. With a more creative coaching staff that put him into better positions to success and believed in him, Parker developed into a legitimate number one receiver going for 72 catches for 1,202 yards and 9 scores. He was a top 5 receiver in terms of yards and touchdowns and out performed some of the players who were selected to the Pro Bowl.

Parker will need to prove he isn’t a one year wonder, but for 2019, he’s the number 2 player on this team.

Number 1: Ryan Fitzpatrick

Fitz-magic has to be number one on this list. Fitzpatrick finished the season with 3,529 yards, 20 TDs and 13 picks, over 13 games which, on paper, screams average. In person, however, he was incredible to watch. From the celebrations to the big time throws, Fitzpatrick easily cemented himself in the hearts of Miami Dolphins fans forever. Fitzpatrick led a team that should have been terrible to upset victories that made Miami fans feel good for the first time in a while, especially with that big win in New England for the first time since 2008.

Fitzpatrick should be around next season to help mentor a young quarterback and help the team continue to win games. If he chooses to retire, or Miami chooses to go a different route, then all anyone can do is thank him for what truly was an awesome season of football.
