Miami Dolphins: 5 best value contracts on the roster
1. Mike Gesicki
Mike Gesicki and his contract situation is going to be an issue that hangs over the heads of the Miami Dolphins for most of the season.
The fourth-year tight end enjoyed somewhat of a breakout season last year when he put up over 700 yards and scored 6 touchdowns, and he will look to build on that and his rapport with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in 2021. But depending on his performance, Gesicki could play his way out of Miami’s price range in less than a year. With his rookie contract set to expire in 2022, he will have some financial decisions to make during the next off season, and it is unclear what the Dolphins plan to do with the ultra-athletic tight end.
But since Gesicki is in the final year of his initial contract, his will be the most valuable of any on the Dolphins salary cap sheet for 2021. He will certainly be a safety blanket for Tagovailoa, and could legitimately end up becoming his favorite target and perhaps even the leading receiver on the team. He will have no shortage of suitors in free agency, and there is a very real possibility that the Dolphins will be looking elsewhere for a starting tight end next season. But at just $1.6 million for 2021, Mike Gesicki could be both the most productive offensive player and the biggest bargain on the entire roster.
