I had and still have high hopes for the latest passenger on the New England to Miami pipeline. Butler signed with the Dolphins in March and when that happened I said that move was going to be one of the Dolphin’s sneakiest good moves that they make all year. I still think that very well can be the case.

I think Butler, though he hasn’t been mentioned too much by the beat writers, will be one of the first guys to spell Christian Wilkins, Raekwon Davis, and Zach Sieler. Butler isn’t simply an unproven guy who hasn’t done much in the league. He’s played in 31 games the last two seasons and has recorded 10 sacks in that time. That’s pretty dang solid from a defensive tackle who isn’t typically a starter.

I don’t think nor am I looking for Butler to put up numbers like that in Miami. That be great if that somehow happened but that would mean one of the other guys I mentioned had a setback of some kind. What Butler’s job is, at the moment, is to step in every game for one of those guys, create piles, discomfort the quarterback up the middle, and play his gap. The Dolphins have been beyond suspect the past few seasons against the run so having quality depth at the defensive tackle position is something that can improve the entire attitude of the team.

Unrealistic Desired Production Against the Bengals- 6 sacks, 3 TFLs, and a power slam of Joe Mixon
