I wrote a few weeks ago about five free agents the Dolphins should try and sign and Leonard Fournette was on that list. He’s on this list as well because I think he would work well in a Mike McDaniel system and that he’s really good.

Like Gordon, I really like Fournette’s ever-evolving ability to catch the ball. Tom Brady started to trust throwing the ball to the former #4 overall pick. It was a skill that started to get better as he had to catch dump-off pass after dump-off pass from Blake Bortles at the end of his Jaguar run and it only got better when Brady basically told him it had to get better.

We know that Fournette is an enormous guy with wheels. That’s what I love about him He has the ability to churn out first downs who doesn’t have to come off the field on 3rd or 4th and short. I think that’s something that would appeal to Mike McD’s nature. A guy who doesn’t give away what you’re doing on offense means that theatricality and deception can be used for big plays down the field in the passing game.

Compared to Gordon, I think Fournette will cost more. I think that the financials will come into play like they always do. Miami has a ton of Miami in free agency but that’s essentially a crate of Bison Dollars(shout out to my Street Fighter the movie lovers out there) because the cap is fake. If a team wants a player, they can figure out how to get him.

Fournette, I think, will be the most expensive running back out there. That doesn’t mean that Miami should automatically move past on seeing if it would work. I just think they’ll be investing money elsewhere. But I would thoroughly enjoy seeing Fournette being a Dolphin because he’d be a real good player for the offense and that it would mean Fournette hit the trifecta on playing for Florida NFL teams.
