Miami Dolphins: 21 personnel will lead Miami to the playoffs
By Jeremy Klump
McDaniel is an offensive guru, and he will give opposing defenses nightmares about how he will use 21 personnel in 2022.
Teams will likely have to stack the box to stop the run because Miami can have two extra blockers in the run game with a tight end and fullback.
If teams do not stack the box on Miami, the Dolphins could have one of the best rushing attacks in the NFL. Having extra blockers in the run game is everything, and the Dolphins will thrive with a heavy run-based attack.
However, what excites me the most, is that teams will have to pick their poison. What do you do on defense? Do you have the extra linebacker to stop the run and risk getting gashed in the passing game? Or do you bring the extra defensive back and risk getting gashed in the run game?
And think about this…How are you going to stack the box when you have Hill and Waddle split out at wide receiver???? The most explosive wide receiver tandem in the NFL can take the top off the defense and score on a big play in an instant. So if a team stacks the box, Hill and Waddle should be able to thrive, even more so than they already would.
Teams will likely have to double Hill and even sometimes Waddle, which will help out Gesicki a ton too. I know some people get mad about Gesicki’s blocking, and it’s a fair criticism, but let’s focus on his pass-catching ability.
Gesicki will be able to eat in the middle of the field because how will teams defend him too? Play action passes to Gesicki will be key as well.
Oh, and did I mention that Miami’s running backs and fullback can catch passes too!? In 21 personnel, Miami will have five real threats to make plays. That’s near impossible to stop.
Think about all the pre-snap manipulation McDaniel will scheme up, too, with motions and funky sets to add stress to the defense. The potential for this offense is ENDLESS.
