Best Miami Dolphins draft picks, Round 4: Randy McMichael

The 4th round of the draft hasn’t exactly been kind to the Dolphins.

The best player that they’ve selected in the 4th is probably Joe Theismann, who never played a single snap for Miami after failed negotiations and a stint in the Canadian Football League. But as far as contributors to the Dolphins franchise, the choice here is really a toss up.

Is it Jeff Dellenbach? The 1985 4th round pick spent 10 solid seasons protecting Dan Marino as a piece on Miami’s front line, and was consistent in doing so. Could it be linebacker Dwight Holler? Selected in 1992, he played in 132 of a possible 138 games over eight seasons with the Dolphins.

Perhaps this is personal preference, but the nod goes to Randy McMichael in this case. The franchise leader in a handful of tight end categories for Miami, he was an iron man for the Dolphins. He never missed a game, amassing over 3,000 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns in his five seasons in South Florida.

He was never considered one of the best in the league at his position, but McMichael was one of the most consistent contributors for the Dolphins during transitional years in the mid-2000s.
