Who will lead the Miami Dolphins in sacks?

Dark Horses:

Jerome Baker, Christian Wilkins, Brandon Jones, Andrew Van Ginkel

There are a handful of players that amassed a respectable amount of sacks during the 2021 season, and they could be surprising candidates to lead the team during the upcoming year.

Our four possibilities in this category are the guys who ranked second through fifth on the team last season in total quarterback takedowns. Jerome Baker followed up his 7-sack performance in 2020 by adding 5.5 more last year, and Christian Wilkins had 4.5 himself in something of a breakout season for him.

The true surprise on the list was Brandon Jones, whose 5 sacks were the most of any defensive back in the entire NFL. He and fellow safety Jevon Holland, who had two sacks himself, formed a formidable pass-rushing duo when the defensive coaching staff unleashed the Zero Blitz. The scheme was partly responsible for Miami’s seven-win surge in the middle of 2021.

Another dark horse to lead the team in sacks is Andrew Van Ginkel, who will be playing for a new contract this season. He followed up a 5.5 sack performance in 2020 by racking up 4 total in 2021. It is highly unlikely that Van Ginkel will even come close to sniffing a double-digit number, which is the probable benchmark for leading the charge.
