Miami Dolphins Question #3: Will the Dolphins have a top-15 run offense?

Since 2016, here is how the Miami Dolphins have finished each season in total rushing yards:

2017: 29th
2018: 25th
2019: 32nd
2020: 22nd
2021: 30th

Whether it has to do with poor scheme, poor offensive line play, or lack of investment at the running back position, the rushing attack in Miami has been abysmal over the last five seasons. His potential ability to fix the problem is one of the main reasons why Mike McDaniel was brought in as the new head coach.

McDaniel comes from the Shanahan coaching tree, one with a proven track record for getting the most out of the running backs, and proved to have continued success with their work with the San Francisco 49ers.

He’ll have a tall task ahead of him in getting the fortunes of the backfield turned around. The off-season work was certainly focused on the run game, not only with offensive line additions but with the signings of Chase Edmonds and Raheem Mostert as well.

On paper, it looks as though the Dolphins should have what it takes to crack the top-15 in the league in total rushing yards. If they can, and compliment Tagovailoa and the passing game, then the sky is the limit for Miami’s offense.
