Miami Dolphins Question #5: Is Tua Tagovailoa the guy?

This will not only be one of the biggest questions for the Dolphins’ fan base but one of the biggest for the general NFL fan as well.

All eyes will be on Tua Tagovailoa this coming season, his third in the league. He has been instilled with the confidence of the coaching staff that he lacked in his first two years, and now has the arsenal of skill position players around him that he will need to be successful.

Will he finally make it work? Will Tyreek Hill see a statistical regression by playing with him? Can he make multiple reads? Can he throw the deep ball?

The fact is unless he throws for 5,500 yards and 40 touchdowns, whatever Tua does will not be enough for the pundits and talking heads that have doubted him for so many months and years. But, according to Tagovailoa himself, none of that matters to him, and it shouldn’t.

What should matter to him is what the coaching staff sees and believes. McDaniel can instill all the confidence he wants in his young pass thrower, go on national talk shows, and hype him up until he is blue in the face. But the fact is that this is a final tryout year for Tagovailoa, and his future with the Miami Dolphins rests on his ability to perform at a high level in 2022.
