Miami Dolphins: Awards for the first half of the 2022 season

Offensive MVP: Tyreek Hill

While the offense has left plenty to be desired through the first half of the season, one player on the roster is leading the NFL in yards for his position group. Tyreek Hill’s performance has been as advertised, as he has been the most productive wide receiver in the league so far in 2022. Through 8 games, Hill has 69 catches and 961 yards, which are both easily the best marks in the league.

Hill’s game-changing speed has been on display throughout the first half, and there is reason to believe that we have yet to see just how much of a positive impact he can make for Tua Tagovailoa and the rest of the offense.

Defensive MVP: Christian Wilkins

There hasn’t been a true stand out on the defensive side of the ball through the first eight games, and when looking at the team stats, it is easy to see why. The team has severely lacked in pass rush and in creating turnovers, two things that provided the defense with an identity over the last couple of seasons. After a Jevon Holland pick in Week 1, the team went five weeks without an interception, and they are in the bottom half of the league in sacks after tying for 5th most last season.

So if we had to choose, the Defensive MVP award would go to Christian Wilkins. His numbers are good, as he is tied for second on the team in total tackles and has 6 tackles for loss on the year. He has the most tackles of any defensive lineman in the NFL. But a defensive lineman’s impact is not always shown on the stat sheet, and Wilkins has been clogging holes and causing problems for opposing offenses all season.
