Miami Dolphins: Is Mike McDaniel just as stubborn as Brian Flores?
By Juan Vasquez
Mike McDaniel & Brian Flores are polar opposites, but they’re both stubborn:
In the McDaniel era and the Brian Flores era, we have seen them take the team above expectations, and get called a candidate for COTY. And both come crashing back to earth in major collapses, in both instances the collapse is due to the HC being stuck in their ways.
Brian Flores was stuck on having a conservative offense and getting points when he could, on top of constantly playing field position and trusting the defense to come up with a stop and/or takeaway.
Flores wasn’t flashy, the team looked boring at times, when games were close he was excellent in situational football situations. Timeouts, clock management, challenges, working the ref, etc. But when a team got ahead by more than 1 score it was practically impossible to come back.
Mike McDaniel is stuck on an aggressive passing offense and taking advantage of the mismatches Tyreek Hill & Jaylen Waddle create. When the offense clicks it’s impossible to stop, and Miami can go and shoot it out with just about anyone. McDaniel is also a great culture and moral HC.
But in close games where situational football situations become critical, a false start happens, or a timeout has to be taken because of bad clock management, making a bad challenge or not challenging a clear one, or not knowing how to work the ref.
And the most back-breaking one of them all, not knowing how to use the run game.
Both coaches had excellent traits, but both coaches also had a lot of flaws.
What is the one common denominator? Stubbornness.
