Dolphins host intriguing QB with legendary Combine for draft visit

Despite earlier reports about Ty Simpson, this SEC QB is a legitimate possibility in the middle rounds.

Back in his introductory press conference, new Miami Dolphins GM Jon-Eric Sullivan spoke about one specific philosophy he was bringing with him from Green Bay. The famous strategy of drafting a quarterback every year has been a staple for the Packers since Ron Wolf became the team's GM starting in 1991. While they didn't truly draft one every single year, it was a genuine strategy that ultimately paid off.

They drafted Aaron Rodgers in 2005 despite having Hall of Fame QB Brett Favre under contract, before repeating the same with Jordan Love and the aforementioned Rodgers in the veteran role in 2020. When the Dolphins decided to pony up the cash for a three-year $67.5 million deal, it became fair to assume they would avoid the position in the first round.

Willis has a long way to go to reach the accomplishments of any of those Packers greats, and even their presence didn't stop Green Bay brass from addressing the position in the draft. There's no reason for the Dolphins to avoid a quarterback in the draft entirely, and the latest player summoned to Miami for a 30-visit will excite fans. Arkansas Razorbacks QB Taylen Green will reportedly take a trip to South Florida to meet with coaches and staff, according to College2Pro's Bo Marchionte.

Taylen Green is a total project at QB, but one that the Miami Dolphins have time for

A few weeks ago, we tabbed Green as a mid-round prospect the Dolphins should eye, if for no other reason than his being the complete opposite of Tua Tagovailoa. At 6'6" and 227 lbs, Green has five inches on Tagovailoa and would not have the former's issues seeing over the offensive line. What's more, Green never missed a collegiate game due to injury, another welcome change from what Dolphins fans had become used to.

Green greatly enhanced his national profile after his jaw-dropping performance at the NFL Combine. He ran a 4.36 40-yard dash, leaped 43.5" in the vertical jump, and had an equally impressive 11'02" broad jump. That's faster than Calvin Johnson, higher than D.K. Metcalf, and farther than Andre Johnson for context.

This was quite possibly the greatest athletic performance by a quarterback at the Combine of all time. His Relative Athletic Score (RAS) reinforces that fact. RAS is strictly a grading system for athleticism, and Green's 9.99 score ranked second all-time among 1,111 quarterbacks from 1987–2026. Naturally, your question might be about his, you know, quarterbacking, and that's a fair point.

Green struggled with accuracy and decision-making throughout his career, with a 60.1% completion percentage and 35 interceptions — figures that he will certainly have to explain when meeting with NFL decision-makers. He still piled up 11,190 yards and 59 touchdowns in 53 career games, displaying true dual-threat ability to the tune of 2,405 yards and 35 TDs on the ground.

Pro Football Focus ranks Green as their No. 246 prospect (eighth among draft-eligible QBs), and his 82.5 grade in 2025 was 64th out of 318 qualifiers. While Green is far from a perfect prospect, he represents a player worthy of a gamble at the game's most important position. If nothing else, he adds value to the team in the form of gadget plays that mobile QBs have used to terrorize the Dolphins over the years.

ESPN's Matt Miller released a seven-round mock draft which had Green falling to the 5th round at pick No. 147, while NFL.com's four-round mock draft by Chad Reuter didn't feature him at all. If this proves indicative of Green's stock come Day 3 of the draft, the Dolphins should be all over the opportunity.
