3 free agents that the Dolphins can Weave(r) into their defense.

Let’s set the table. This past season, veteran coach Vic Fangio was the defensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins. He now owns the same title with the Philadelphia Eagles.

This offseason, the organization hired former Baltimore Ravens’ assistant head coach/defensive line coach Anthony Weaver as his replacement. He was part of a team this past season that not only finished with the league’s best win-loss record (13-4), but the Ravens led the NFL in sacks (60), allowed a league-low 280 points, and tied for the top spot in the National Football League with 31 takeaways.

There appears to be a mass exodus in Baltimore, and several of the team’s better defensive players are still available on the open market. This may be a great opportunity for Weaver to perhaps recruit some of these performers who played a key role in the Ravens’ strong 2023 campaign.

Miami’s defense showed some improvement this past season under Fangio, but there were some issues down the stretch – especially against the run. Of course, who could forget the Dolphins’ horrific 56-19 loss at Baltimore in Week 17? Miami gave up season-highs in total yards (491) and yards per play (8.9), and Weaver had a front-row seat.

Hence, these three veterans who the new defensive coordinator is familiar with could certainly aid the Dolphins’ defensive cause.
