OTA Debut For WR & More

AUTHOR: Txmedic5 | IN: Breaking News, Dolphins | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Miami Dolphins are conducting OTA’s or “organized team activities” this week as part of a two week “practice” session.  WR Brian Hartline made his Dolphins debut today as OSU has graduated it’s senior class.  NFL rules prohibit draft picks still in college to participate until their school has graduated it’s class.  With the local and national media (but not Internet bloggers) access to the sessions today, more news has come out of the Davie training center than in the previous days of ‘09 OTA’s.
Starting with the WR that had many, including myself, shaking our heads during the NFL draft [...]

Tailgaters Beware…Prices Of Beer Going Up?

AUTHOR: Txmedic5 | IN: Off-Topic/Other | COMMENTS: 10 Comments

Surfing the web for something to write about this morning and I cam across an article from a website called “Digital City”.  Now, normally I don’t put much stock into some websites, but an article by the article written by Sean Madden caught my attention.  Are the prices of beer really going up?
It makes sense on the surface.  The United States already taxes the hell out of cigarrettes, beer, wine, and just about everything else so raising the taxes on alcohol really makes sense.  Especially when you figure in the money dolled out to save GM…snicker…and of course bail out [...]

Race Enters Randy Starks Arrest

AUTHOR: Txmedic5 | IN: Dolphins | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

O.k., there are some things I don’t like writing about religion is one of them and politics is another.  Race is a third and no I’m not talking about NASCAR and I’m not trying to stir up the masses or belittle something that I know exists.  Let’s face it, as long as there are different nationalities, different skin tones, and different ethnic backgrounds, race will be an issue.  How do I know?  Simple, it’s on just about every single application you fill out.  So should it come as a surprise that the attorney representing Randy Starks over his weekend arrest [...]

Guarded Concern? Donald Thomas Will Miss Time

AUTHOR: Txmedic5 | IN: Camp News, Dolphins | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

The Miami Dolphins appeared to have drafted a huge steal in last years NFL draft when they selected OG Donald Thomas in the late rounds.  A year later and the Phins are still wondering if that selection will be a bonafide steal or a never realized dream.  Over the weekend however it was learned that the late rounder suffered a torn pectoral muscle during workouts two weeks ago and that could be a “guarded” concern for the coaching staff.
The injury may keep Thomas out of this years training camp although HC Tony Sparano stated that he was confident that Thomas [...]

Dolphins Address Free Agent Will Allen…Signs 2 Year Deal

AUTHOR: Txmedic5 | IN: Breaking News, Dolphins | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Miami Dolphins and CB Will Allen faced an impending free agent market after the 2009 season.  Allen, the Dolphins starting CB of the past 3 years was set to become a free agent.  Many believed that the Phins found their replacement for Allen after this past April’s draft when they selected Vontae’ Davis in round 1 and later selected Chris Clemons.  That is not the case as today the Phins signed their veteran CB to a 2 year extension.
Allen will hold down one CB spot while Davis, Eric Green, and Jason Allen compete for the starting spot opposite field. [...]

SouthBeach Claims Randy Starks…Arrested

AUTHOR: Txmedic5 | IN: Dolphins | COMMENTS: 8 Comments

The nightlife that is known around the world simply as “Southbeach” has claimed yet another sports star.  This time around, the Miami beach front hot-spot has claimed Miami Dolphins DT Randy Starks.  Starks was arrested over the weekend on a felony charge of aggrevated assault on a police officer.
Starks who served primarily as an insurance policy last season was expected, is expected, to challenge the other DE’s for a starting roll this coming season.  With the departure of Vonnie Holliday, Starks is in line to challenge for the vacancy.
The report simply says that a Miami police officer repeatedly tried to [...]

Be Back Soon

AUTHOR: Txmedic5 | IN: Dolphins | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Miami Dolphins signed FB Lousaka Polite to a 2 year extension over the weekend.  I missed that one because I am out of town.  Fear not, I will be back soon.  After an exhausting offseason…o.k. not so much, I have taken my family to Orlando to visit that round eared rodent.
O.k. I really shouldn’t call my brother that.  (Big Smile)  So needless to say I will be gone until a week from today.  So enjoy your week and Go Dolphins!!!

With Jason Taylor Back…Who Goes?

AUTHOR: Txmedic5 | IN: Dolphins | COMMENTS: 7 Comments

The Miami Dolphins have Jason Taylor already listed on the official roster as a LB.  The Phins already have 13 LB’s on the roster.  A couple of those names are camp guys.  Maybe a practice squad player or two and nothing more.  Some of those are ILB’s who will not be directly affected by the signing of JT at the outset of training camp.  Still, someone could lose a roster spot because of JT’s signing.
So with Jason Taylor back in Miami, who will be left off the roster?
Cameron Wake isn’t going anywhere but he could be the reason the Phins [...]

Welcome Back Jason Taylor…Miami Re-Signs DE!

AUTHOR: Txmedic5 | IN: Dolphins | COMMENTS: 9 Comments

The Miami Dolphins and Jason Taylor have ended their one year squabble and the all-pro DE has rejoined the Phins.  The two sides had been negotiating since early this morning and have agreed on a one year 1.5 million dollar contract.  Welcome back JT!
The Dolphins moved Taylor to the Washington Redskins just before the start of training camp for a 2nd round pick that became Mr. Utility, Pat White.  The Redskins got very little in return as Jason battled minor injuries and never became the pro-bowler they expected.
Despite earlier report on April Fools Day…by me…the Dolphins do not have to [...]

Off-Off Season: Miami Making News By Not Making News

AUTHOR: Txmedic5 | IN: Dolphins | COMMENTS: 5 Comments

When the NFL season ends the off-season begins.  And you thought I wasn’t all that smart.  In actuality what happens after that final game often leaves fans talking or speculating.  There is the changes in coaching staff, the early cuts, the retirements, the turning of stones to find that street free agent.  There is the Super Bowl and then the short countdown to free agency.  The Combine, the pro-day’s, and then the draft.  It’s a flurry of 3 months of activity all designed to ready the teams for the next season.  Then, there is the off-off season.  That time between [...]

A Pig, A Taxi Driver, & Surfboard…Oh So Close

AUTHOR: Txmedic5 | IN: Off-Topic/Other | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Amazing Race on CBS finished it’s 14th season last night and the two women team comprising of former Miami Dolphins cheerleaders Jaime and Cara came up a tad bit short Sunday night.  The ladies finished a very respectable 2nd place to a brother and sister lawyer team.
In the final leg that ended back on U.S. soil in Hawaii, the three teams hopped off a flight from China and headed to the ocean.  The first task, the one that set the girls back only a bit, involved carrying a pig 200 yards down the beach to a luau pit where [...]

Jaime & Cara Go For The Million

AUTHOR: Txmedic5 | IN: Dolphins | COMMENTS: None Yet

Somewhere, presumably in south Florida, these two beautiful red-heads are sitting around talking about the amazing race they completed not too long ago.  I say completed because unlike all but 2 other couples on CBS’ “Amazing Race“, they will be one of the 3 finalists racing for a million dollars…which also means they will finish the race.
Jaime and Cara are special.  Not because they are hot, or solid contestants, but because they were, Miami Dolphins cheerleaders.  I am an avid fan of reality based television.  I like to be spoonfed images of people who are thrust into difficult situations [...]

New Dolphins Song Not A Fight Song, But…

AUTHOR: Txmedic5 | IN: Dolphins, Video | COMMENTS: 11 Comments

The Miami Dolphins unveiled a new stadium sponsor earlier in the week.  Stephen Ross, the new owner of the Dolphins and the stadium, partnered with Jimmy Buffet to bring “Landshark Lager” to the stadium as the newest sponser.  The Landshark Stadium announcement rolled in with a tidal wave of parrot-head fans and Dolphins fans at the mini-concert event.
The Dolphins also have a new song.  Ross said that time will tell if the fans prefer it to the old Dolphins fight song.  The “Kick the ball from goal to goal” lyrics have been around since the early days of the franchise [...]

Miami Dolphins Sign Offensive Linemand Quinn

AUTHOR: Txmedic5 | IN: Dolphins | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

The Miami Dolphins have signed one of the guys that they invited to try out at this past weekends rookie mini-camp.  J.D. Quinn.  Quinn is an interior offensive lineman from Montana.  He was undrafted.  Quinn also has a history of off-field issues including DUI that was lessened to a state law that admits to driving over the legal limit of .08 but does not admit guilt to driving drunk.  Someone will have to explain that one to me later.
Quinn is also one of the Oklahoma Sooners who was kicked off the team for violating NCAA rules regarding accepting money.  Quinn [...]
