If there is one thing you don’t want to happen during draft week is an issue with the police. Yesterday it was Shane Ray’s turn as he was busted with pot in his car and today La’el Collins is being sought after by police in connection with a murder. Mind you it’s just for questions.

Baton Rouge police want to speak with Collins, a probable first round pick and a player many believe is a target of the Dolphins, regarding a murder of a 29 year old woman last Friday. The woman, Brittney Mills, was shot several times. The woman’s unborn child, 8 months into pregnancy survived the shooting and is under medical care.

Police are not accusing the incoming rookie of any wrongdoing and as of now they say Collins is not a suspect. However Collins apparently had a relationship of some sort with the woman and police are hoping he can shed some light on the incident.

"“We are consistently pursuing getting in touch with him, not as a suspect, but to ask him questions about the victim,” Cpl. Coppola said. “Detectives have reached out and been in touch with his agent. Collins is currently in Chicago for the NFL draft.” – Cpl. Don Coppola"

Police say they have no suspect at this time.

While Collins is being sought for questioning it’s unlikely to have any adverse effects on his draft status. Most believe he will be drafted between 12 and the early 20’s.

A strong offensive lineman that can play both guard and tackle, Collins has great potential coming out of LSU and many believe that he is NFL ready from the start. Miami selects 14th in this years draft.

Update: It’s being reported that Collins was in Chicago ahead of the draft at the time of the murder and also that he has had no contact with the woman since September.
