Kenyan Drake plays hero with late touchdown, Dolphins win 27-23

It took a late kickoff return for a touchdown by rookie running back Kenyan Drake to give the Miami Dolphins a 27-23 edge over the New York Jets.

The game was back and forth to start, with the Jets getting on the board first. New York held the lead until tight end Domonique Jones scored on a one yard touchdown, the first of his career. The touchdown was only Ryan Tannehill‘s second since week four. The Jets made a field goal before the end of the 1st half but Miami took a 14-13 lead into half.

It wasn’t until the 3rd quarter that either team scored consecutively with Dolphins kicker Andrew Franks making two of his three field goals on the day.

Things heated up in the 4th quarter; Nick Folk made it 16-20 and the Jets were punching on the door for a touchdown before quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw a horrible jump ball interception in the end zone to cornerback Bobby McCain.

Fitzpatrick made up for it, however, after punter Matt Darr muffed a punt deep in Dolphins territory. Just after the interception, McCain got beat by Jalin Marshall on a post route and the Jets resumed the lead late in the 4th.

That’s when Drake stepped in.

After an offsides penalty on the ensuing kickoff forced the Jets to re-kick, Drake took the ball 96 yards for his first NFL special teams touchdown of his career. It’s his second touchdown on the season, rushing for one in week two against the New England Patriots.

Miami is now 4-4 on the season and sitting in 2nd place in the AFC East with a 2-1 record in the division.
