The Miami Dolphins are on the practice field and already there are issues with the offensive line. This according to multiple beat writers who are attending today’s closed practice session.

UPDATE:  The Dolphins have wrapped up practice, Sun-Sentinel’s Chris Perkins says the practice was unremarkable on either side. Defense was o.k., offensive QB’s were o.k. Said that the running backs did some good things. Also said the offensive line finally looked better except at center which is going to be an issue for the team. Might be a good time to look at free agent centers.

Update: The Dolphins have been taking breaks inside the Nick Saban Memorial Bubble, no that’s not the real name, these breaks get the players out of the heat for a period of time before returning to the grueling hot Florida sun. At least they are not practicing as much indoors as in years past.

The team is working on some special teams drills at the moment. Nothing too exciting yet.

Jarvis Landry is back returning punts but is doing so from a jugs machine. Three others are back with him. Yesterday special teams coach Darren Rizzi expressed interest in finding the right players for the return game.

Shelley Smith is not taking first team snaps as the teams center, he is back at right guard where Billy Turner and Dallas Thomas have been moved behind him. Thomas has also been seeing some time at the right tackle position this morning. That is far more natural fit for Smith and could be the opening day position for Smith. As well as it should be. Yesterday it was reported that Joe Philbin wanted to see players in different positions so whether these changes stick or not is unknown.

Billy Turner got manhandled on one play. Not a lot of positive news coming from media reports just yet. But it is very early.

Linebacker Chris McCain has got a play or two with the starting defense and according to Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel has made a big hit in his short time. The hit was made on wide-receiver Matt Hazel.

It should be pointed out that the Dolphins are doing a lot of experimentation this week according to Omar Kelly and that is fine. Many teams will rotate players around to find the right fits. Of course if you already have your starters that rotation means a lot less, the Dolphins however do not have all of their starters so finding the right fit is imperative as the start of pre-season looms a week away. If Kelly is correct that the team typically does this in week two then we should have an idea of what the teams line will look like in week three if it settles back down.

Several more bad snaps including one over the head of Matt Moore by David Arkin who is lining up as the second team center.

Sam Brenner is back at practice but not actually practicing. He is on a rehab assignment which is a good indication that his ankle injury isn’t too serious. Unfortunately for him, the Shelley Smith failure could have provided him a huge opportunity to take over as the teams starting center or at least challenge Nate Garner for it.
