Miami Dolphins NFL Draft Prospect: OL La’el Collins
By Eric Roddy
The Miami Dolphins offensive line underwent a dramatic transformation last season, but still has room to improve. One of Miami’s biggest weaknesses is their lack of depth in the trenches, made evident last season when Branden Albert went down for the rest of the season. Rookie and first round pick Ja’Wuan James proved he is a bookend for the ‘Fins, but where the team really struggled was at the Guard position.
This is precisely why the Dolphins may want to consider drafting LSU’s La’el Collins with the 14th overall selection in the upcoming 2015 NFL Draft.

Collins is an athletic linemen at 6 foot 5, 308 pounds. He is strong and can get to the next level when blocking, and is a fair pass protector. In 2013, as a junior, Collins started 12 games for the Tigers at LT, and has played the position ever since. But what is really impressive about Collins is his versatility. As a sophomore in 2012, he started all 13 games at left guard for the Tigers, and earned honorable mention All SEC in doing so. He can play anywhere along the offensive line, which is exactly the type of player the Dolphins could use.

With Albert and James securing the outer parts of the O-Line, Collins could come in and start day one at either guard position, and be an instant upgrade. Then, should worst case scenario happen and Albert or James get hurt, Collins could shift over into either tackle position. He is a valuable asset and very much worth the 14th overall selection.
His availability? Not unlikely. Some analysts have him going inside the top 10, some have him going top 20. He is projected as the 13th overall selection right now.
