We may as well stay with the linebackers. Chris McCain is currently a back-up but that won’t likely be the case come the start of the season. McCain has every intangible you want in a linebacker and his football attitude is fantastic. McCain only posted five tackles and a sack last season but don’t let the stats fool you. This kid is going to be critical for the Dolphins defense this season and his sophomore year should be a huge breakout.

Like Jenkins, McCain will benefit from the improved (on paper) defensive line. He will likely face competition from Dion Jordan for playing time but the Dolphins reluctance to decide on a position for Jordan gives McCain the inside track for the starting job with Phillip Wheeler and Jonathan Freeney both gone.

McCain has the tools to be very good and the Dolphins only need to put him in the position to let him work out the inexperience. They will get every chance to see him this off-season and throughout training camp. The youthful duo of McCain and Jenkins could be the long term solution at both of the outside backer positions.
