Josh Freeman Signs With Dolphins
By Andrew Eisch
According to an NFL.com source, the Miami Dolphins have signed veteran quarterback Josh Freeman. This signing comes after the Dolphins resigned backup Matt Moore to a one-year contract earlier this offseason.
Although Freeman’s role has not been established, he will likely be on the lower half of the depth chart coming into training camp. Ryan Tannehill and Moore round out the top of the depth chart. Unlikely to unseat either of those two, Freeman has a chance to take the third quarterback position from McLeod Bethel-Thompson.
Freeman was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the 19th overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Freeman spent four and a half years with the Buccaneers before departing to the Minnesota Vikings for a brief stint of appearances.

Combined, Freeman has a 24-36 record in the NFL, with his best season coming with the Buccaneers in 2010, in which he led the Buccaneers to a 10-6 record, including 25 touchdowns and only six interceptions. Freeman’s career has since regressed.
After an 0-3 start in 2013, Freeman later departed to the Vikings where he started only one game, a game that he threw over 53 passes.
Freeman was later brought to the New York Giants before being released before the season. Freeman, in turn, sat out the remainder of the 2014 season.
This signing of Freeman has some relation to the Dolphin’s personnel, as General Manager Dennis Hickey spent 18 seasons with the Buccaneers, including serving as the director of scouting in 2009, the season the Buccaneers drafted Freeman.
The signing of Freeman is reportedly a one-year deal.
