Will Miami Dolphins Test The Isaiah Battle Waters?
By Brian Miller
The 2015 NFL Supplemental Draft starts on Thursday. You won’t find it on t.v. you can’t follow along with it online. You won’t find out who if anyone is drafted until the NFL announces the results. Not on show or by an announcement mind you, just a leak to the media. Unless of course someone is selected early. That someone could be Clemson tackle Isaiah Battle.

- The Miami Dolphins should not take a running back in the draft
The Dolphins need offensive line help and with questions still floating around regarding the health of Branden Albert it’s entirely possible that the Dolphins could view Battle as a future tackle and an immediate guard. More than likely however they won’t view him at all. Miami covets their draft picks.
The supplemental picking is much different than the real draft. Teams submit names of players they want and assign them a draft spot. So for example if Miami believes Battle is worth a 5th round pick, they would submit his name to the NFL as a pick at their 5th round spot. Any team picking before them in any round can of course draft him first. If the Dolphins come up in round 5 and Battle is on the board, he goes to Miami. Most of the time teams pass. If a team uses a pick in the supplemental process they lose the corresponding pick in the following years draft.
While Battle is the top player in this years draft there are as many questions surrounding his off-field performances which have included possession of marijuana. Battle was also ejected from an NC State game for hitting NC State player Jarvis Byrd with an uppercut. After three seasons with Clemson, Battle opted to leave amid rumors of off-field issues and grades.
The Dolphins are not typically a team that takes risks on players with off-field issues especially under the watch of Joe Philbin and the team is already watching a top three draft pick, Dion Jordan, sit in the stands after his 3rd failed drug test.
When the smoke clears tomorrow after the draft has concluded the Dolphins will likely retain all of their draft picks f0r 2016. In an ESPN mock draft (supplemental mock) Battle is headed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the first pick in round 4. The Dolphins will be selecting around the 14th position. Should they chose to make an attempt.
