Evan Mathis still won’t go away. Or at least the rumors won’t. The Miami Dolphins need a solid offensive guard and there is none better right now than Mathis. Who cares that he is over the age of 30 and who cares if he is looking for a contract that will pay him around 5-6 million annually. Mathis has proven his worth and the Dolphins have the space. With Mathis on the field the Dolphins offensive line is fixed, at least on one side.

Reality says that the Dolphins should be hammering out a deal but like all the other 31 NFL teams Miami has taken a wait and see approach. Mathis believes that wait will soon come to an end and that he will have a new team within a couple of weeks. That makes sense as teams will be returning from their vacations and training camps will be starting.

"“Exactly what my options are aren’t as clear as they will be in a week or two,” Mathis said in a CBS Sports Radio interview last Wednesday via Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald."

Beasley says in his article that the Dolphins are still interested in Mathis.

The question is will Miami give Mathis what he wants to play? The Dolphins and most NFL teams view Mathis as an aging player but Mathis still has a few years left at what quality level is the question. Most believe that Mathis’ deal will be more about guaranteed money then annual amounts. He is likely going to sign his final contract of his career, or at least his final longest one.

Many believe that Miami has interest in the lineman for two reasons. One they have a need at guard and two Bill Lazor was part of the offensive coaching staff in Philadelphia two seasons ago and knows Mathis well enough to have input in him coming to Miami. Regardless of how the Dolphins truly feel, the rumors are not going to go away anytime soon. Well they will in about two weeks or so when Mathis finally signs with a team and then the rumors will end.
