Miami Dolphins Training Camp Roster Bubble Veterans
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins are only a few days away from starting training camp and there are veteran players that will be on the roster bubble. The Sun-Sentinel released their top 10 list of veterans that are on that bubble but I’m not sure I agree with all of them. The only way to really look at what they figure to be players in danger of not making the roster is to look at them one by one and then critique their chances and then add who we believe to be players on that bubble.

Matt Hazel
Hazel hasn’t done much with his time in Miami but opportunities have been slim. Hazel has a lot of talent and it can be argued that if given the chance, Hazel could be better than some of the others on the roster. Drafted in 2014, Hazel has looked good in spot duty but this year he is looking up at a thick roster at wide-receiver. Kenny Stills, DeVante Parker, Greg Jennings, and Jarvis Landry all are starters and barring injury will take up four roster spots.
What I think
I think Hazel makes the roster this year but it’s Reshard Matthews that I believe will be the odd man out. Matthews is a quality depth receiver but he has had some issues on the field that have soured the coaching staff. If it’s 50/50 for the 5th spot, I think Hazel gets the position and Matthews is the one on the bubble.
Arthur Lynch
Lynch has spent most of his time in Miami injured and has yet to make an impact in practice or on the field. The back injury that kept him out of his rookie season has apparently healed but there is still questions that linger. He will be competing this training camp with veteran Gerrell Robinson and undrafted rookie Tim Semsich.
What I think
I agree with this as I think Lynch is going to have a tough camp and the competition is going to be tough. I also think that given what we have seen out of Semsich over the off-season he has a legit chance to impress the coaches enough to make the 53. It’s going to be difficult and we have seen player falter once the pads come on.
LaMichael James
The former 49’er 2nd round draft pick has not make a lasting impression at the NFL level after a highly successful college career.
What I think
James has a leg up on Mike Gillislee who I believe has a real likelihood of being released this year. Gillislee hasn’t been able to stay healthy and hasn’t shown much when he was. James may not be great but he can add value to the special teams and this year will get a full off-season of work to know the system.
Jeff Linkenbach
The Sentinel points out that this late addition in free agency could compete for the starting job or find himself looking for a job.
What I think
While I will in no way say that Linkenbach is safe, he adds veteran depth to a unit almost devoid of depth at guard. I would be surprised given the teams roster if Linkenbach didn’t make the team. Of course if they do decide to sign Evan Mathis, that will change considerably.
Sam Brenner
Brenner was a practice squad player who made the show after the Richie Incognito fiasco. He was signed off the practice squad on a Thursday and told he would start that Friday. He was impressive as a center but wasn’t a long term solution. He spend the next season again on and off the practice squad.
What I think
While I really like Brenner the reality is that he is not in a position to contribute this year and thus will likely not have a spot on the roster unless there are injuries ahead of him.
