Three start camp on Miami Dolphins PUP list

The Miami Dolphins are reporting to camp today and so far three members of their roster will start the period on the physically unable to perform list. Miami earlier announced that left tackle Branden Albert would not be on that list, it was good news. While Miami will likely take the safe approach in letting him back on the field the announcement of three on the list today could be an issue for two of the players trying to make the roster.

DeVante Parker, Don Jones, and Gerell Robinson are all on the list. Robinson’s designation is the active/non-football injury list. The Dolphins can remove the designation on any player at any time during the pre-season so the designation won’t preclude them from returning to practice.

While Parker is a lock to make the roster even as he rehabs the foot that had a pin replaced the same can’t be said about the other two.

Don Jones was released last year at the conclusion of camp and was acquired off waivers by the Patriots. He would return to Miami later in the season but the Dolphins have a plethora of talent at the safety position. Reshad  Jones will return this season as will Louis Delmas. Michael Thomas is returning from a season ending chest injury and the Dolphins drafted Cedric Thompson in the 5th round of last April’s draft. Jones has an uphill battle to make this years squad so missed time will hurt his chances.

At tight-end Gerell Robinson was expected to compete for one of maybe four tight-end spots. He was expected to compete with Jake Stoneburner, Arthur Lynch, and Tim Semisch who stood out in OTA’s and mini-camp drills.  Time is important to Robinson as the battle for the two spots behind starters Jordan Cameron and Dion Sims is wide open.

As stated the Dolphins can lift the designation at any time but time is not on the side of the two competing for a roster spot.
