Miami Dolphins fall apart in 2nd half
By Brian Miller
Ryan Tannehill and the first team offense looked good. Ndamukong Suh and the Miami Dolphins first team defense looked good. The rest of the team? Not so much. The Dolphins entered the 2nd half of Thursday nights pre-season game against the Chicago Bears with a 10-3 lead but shaky offensive line play, quarterback play, and rookie linebackers cost Miami the game.

While Matt Moore could only generate field goal attempts, McLeod Bethel-Thompson generated turnovers with three interceptions in the third quarter. Running back Mike Gillislee fumbled early in the 2nd half as well after a long gain. All in all the Dolphins simply couldn’t muster any degree of offense in the 2nd half and the Bears wore down an young and inexperienced defense as the game progressed.
While 4th team quarterback Josh Freeman looked better than MBT early, he still had accuracy issues and threw the final interception of the game with 12 seconds left securing the 27-10 Chicago victory.
Overall the Dolphins were a sloppy mess. Too many penalties on both sides of the ball and inconsistent play along the offensive line and the teams depth did not make for a well executed game. Luckily the starting units played well.
Another good note to pass along is that Billy Turner who played a large portion of the game didn’t look half bad at the right guard position. Further breakdown by our staff will look deeper at the individual line play over the coming days. Pre-season games are often hard to gauge especially the first ones and in most cases a lot of work is needed for all the teams.
Perhaps the biggest disappointments tonight were the play of Matt Moore and Josh Freeman. Freeman is an NFL veteran who couldn’t succeed against the Bears undrafted rookie squad on defense that included players on the roster bubble. If I have to give an early thumbs up it would have to be to undrafted rookie Zach Vigil who made several plays in the 2nd half.
We will have more to breakdown on this game after we can rewind and re-watch it soon.
