ZACK BOWMAN
Entering his 8th year in the NFL, Bowman was supposed to be challenging for a starting cornerback job. The one not occupied by Brent Grimes. In fact Bowman chose the Dolphins because he was told that he would have a legit shot at starting. Now it seems he will be lucky to simply make the roster.
Bowman has done nothing to improve his shot of starting. He is running with the third team units behind Jamar Taylor and Bryce McCain. Through two pre-season games he has been o.k. but not great. Known for his special teams play as well, Bowman hasn’t stuck out on that unit either.
The Dolphins needed Bowman to come in cocky and ready to fight but so far he has been rather docile. Will Davis who has been up and down throughout camp is still ahead of him on the depth chart.
Simply put, Bowman isn’t making the kind of impact that he was expected to. The Dolphins will likely carry six or seven defensive backs into the season and it’s looking more and more likely that Bowman will lose a spot to Tony Lippett or Brian McCain. Both rookies. The reality here is that while neither rookie has played better than Bowman they have more potential and with Bowman not playing to the level expected, there isn’t much room for him on the roster.
