Four positions Miami Dolphins could look at on FA wire
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins are not the only team making cuts today. More players will be out of work by the end of the day than on any other day in the calendar year. With so much talent hitting free agency today it’s only natural to wonder who the Dolphins, if the Dolphins, will take a look.

There is no need to look at specific players as the Dolphins obviously have their own plan for one but two not everyone has been released yet. It’s much easier to look at a few areas, four to be exact that the Dolphins may have interest in taking a deeper examination on.
Here are four positions that the Dolphins might explore after the cuts have been made across the NFL.
Guard – depth at the position is a question and the Dolphins are not thrilled with the play of Billy Turner. They expected more. Jamil Douglas has played well and is the future at one of the guard spots, but he is still unproven and has been inconsistent at times throughout the off-season. The Dolphins won’t likely pursue a veteran free agent as money is an issue so if the Dolphins do take a look at any free agent guards they will be one year contract players who will provide depth and possibly challenge the younger Douglas and Turner.
Linebacker – Chris McCain has not made the impression that was expected and there is a lot of talk that Koa Misi will bounce outside again and Kelvin Sheppard will play the middle spot. Questions with depth is also an issue here as well. Zack Vigil has looked good but his raw and Spencer Paysinger has looked horrible. Add Jordan Tripp’s nagging injury and the Dolphins could be in the market for another veteran who can make an impact.
Cornerback – The Dolphins might look but I’m not sure they will buy. Miami likes the youth of Bobby McCain and Tony Lippett but Zach Bowman could be replaced if the team can find a more suitable contributor on the wire. Bowman hasn’t been cut yet so don’t read too much into that. However if he does make the team and Miami finds a more suitable option Bowman could be released later. Will Davis is also a question as well as the rumors have been floating that Miami is looking to trade him.
Safety – When Louis Delmas went down again with another torn ACL the job fell to Walt Aikens. Both Aikens and Michael Thomas have been inconsistent but have shown potential. The Dolphins will also likely carry Cedric Thompson into the season as well but that does not mean if a starting option presents itself the Dolphins won’t kick the tires (as opposed to turning over acorns).
It is going to be a tough sell for the Dolphins to make any moves that are not related to the practice squad. They like the talent they have and believe they have the right pieces in place to start. If I were a betting man, and I’m not, I would wager a guess that Miami makes no significant roster additions after all the cuts are made. Not unless the players price, talent, and contribution expectations meet the Dolphins needs.
