Mild surprises as Miami Dolphins get to 53
By Brian Miller
The league has been notified by the Miami Dolphins that there cuts have been made. There were a couple of surprises, but mostly mild. Nothing Earth shattering but finally after an all day wait, the Dolphins have their 53 man roster set. That will most definitely change in the coming days and I’ll tell you why below.

Tight end – the Dolphins will enter the 2015 season with only two TE’s. That will most assuredly change in the coming days. The Dolphins opted to release Tim Semisch and Jake Stoneburner. Stoneburner had a pretty decent camp so it’s a bit of a surprise to see the team entering the season with two tight ends.
Sam Brenner was seen by many as the teams back-up center but today the Dolphins released him as well. Brenner had a solid training camp and looked good in pre-season even seeing time at guard as well.
Only one 2015 draft pick was released, Cedric Thompson who was drafted in round five. The Dolphins have said they want him on the practice squad.
The running back position was quite stacked but as many predicted Mike Gillislee was let go. There was belief that he might initially make the roster given the injury to Jay Ajayi but the Dolphins apparently don’t need to stash Ajayi which makes Gillislee expendable. They will enter 2015 with Lamar Miller, Damien Williams, and LaMichael James healthy while they wait on the rookie.
Miami also opted to part ways with linebacker Jordan Tripp. Tripp looked great on special teams in 2014 before an injury sidelined him for the remainder of the season. He hurt his ankle early in camp and was not a participant in the pre-season. The Dolphins opted to move on.
The biggest news of the cuts today we covered earlier when it was reported that Caleb Sturgis had been cut in favor of Andrew Franks.
