Miami Dolphins cut Jonas Gray sign RB
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins have had an unusually busy day on the business side of things. Earlier today they released running back LaMichael James who fumbled a kick return on Sunday and now there is news that the team has released running back Jonas Gray who they just signed off their own practice squad.

Gray should be a candidate for the Dolphins practice squad where he was originally signed. He will need to clear waivers first. In addition to the subtractions the Dolphins have claimed Philadelphia Eagles running back Raheem Mostert according to his agent.
Mostert was a very good kick-returner in college at Purdue and will likely assume the role in Miami. How long will depend on how well he plays and how quickly he picks up the Dolphins return schemes. Through training camp and pre-season Mostert led the league in yards from scrimmage.
In addition to Gray and James, the Dolphins also released/waived center Sam Brenner and brought back guard/center Jacques McClendon. Brenner, if he clears waivers will likely be added to the practice squad as well although there were reports that he was offered other PS spots with other teams and chose Miami. It’s possible that given some of the injuries around the league over the weekend, that Brenner could be claimed.
The move of re-signing McClendon is an obvious move for the salary cap. Released last week prior to Saturday, the Dolphins avoided having to pay McClendon his full 2015 salary. Had he been on the roster he would have had his 2015 contract guaranteed because he is a vested veteran with more than four years experience.
Finally the Dolphins signed tight-end Jake Stoneburner off the practice squad. The Dolphins lost tight-end Dion Sims to what appeared to be a concussion. There was little doubt that this move was coming considering the Dolphins only have one healthy tight-end.
