Miami Dolphins vs. Jacksonville Jaguars: team connections
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars are connected and I don’t mean the I95 corridor that connects both cities. The two clubs have never developed anything more than a cross state rivalry and even that is weak. With no divisional contests between the clubs, the Dolphins and Jaguars don’t share the same season in the NFL and so whatever rivalry exists between the clubs, is between the Dolphins fans who live up North and the Jaguars fans who adopted the team when they were born.

The NFL is a breeding grown for connections. Coaches and players cross paths throughout their careers and more often than not two coaches who find themselves planning a scheme together on season inevitably will be planning a scheme against each other the next. In this day of free agency, players are often enemies and then teammates. Here is a look at a few of the connections between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins.
Jared Odrick
The Dolphins drafted Odrick in the first round in the 2010 NFL Draft. He is entering his 6th season in the NFL and almost was retained this past off-season. The Dolphins opted to part ways with Odrick and Randy Starks in favor of Ndamukong Suh. Odrick soon signed a free agent deal with Jacksonville. In week one Odrick was not as explosive as he was in Miami but the Jaguars defensive line is banged up. Earlier this week he posted an image on Instagram of a Jaguar eating a fish. Typical fun loving Odrick. Through his career with the Dolphins, Odrick was both vocal and a leader on and off the field and became one of the more colorful players on the team.
Chad Henne
Yes, Chad Henne is still in the NFL. He is now the back-up to Blake Bortles and if the Dolphins can get to Bortles today, they may force Henne into the game. Henne has never become the quarterback that Bill Parcells envisioned when he drafted him in the 2nd round of the 2008 draft. Hence lasted three seasons in Miami before leaving for Jacksonville via free agency. Henne has performed far better in Jacksonville than in Miami but he was never expected to be anything more than a bridge quarterback in Jacksonville.
Gus Bradley
There is no direct connection between Bradley and the Dolphins. The Jaguars head coach does however have a connection with Dolphins offensive coordinator Bill Lazor as both coaches were on the Seattle Seahawks staff in 2009. Bradley was the teams defensive coordinator and Lazor the teams quarterback coach.
Jerry Sullivan
Jerry Sullivan is the Jaguars wide-receiver coach. In 2004, Sullivan was the wide-receivers coach for the Dolphins.
