The Miami Dolphins were the first team to sign a new head coach and after they announced Adam Gase, the rest of the NFL followed quickly. All told, six head coaches were hired this year with one team, Tennessee still in flux.

The Tennessee Titans have not announced if Mike Mularkey will remain the head coach after taking over as an interim head coach in 2015. The Titans have hired a new general manager and that decision will now fall on his shoulders. The Titans are unlucky because most of the top candidates have new jobs but they also have the benefit of being the only team left to interview coaches currently still in the playoffs. If they fire Mularkey.
So who is in and who was out? The changes made to the coaching staffs this year could have huge impacts on each franchise. In fact for better or worse they will have huge impacts. If they fail the teams will be looking for a new coach in a few years if they succeed then the team will have been turned around.
Here is a look at the six replacement head coaches. So far. It should be noted that Jim Caldwell in Detroit will be retained. The news was announced this morning.
San Francisco 49’ers
New head coach – Chip Kelly
Previous head coach – Jim Tomsula
After one season as head coach the 49’ers fired Tomsula after going 5-11. The 49’ers began to play better towards the end of the season but quarterback play stymied the team. Chip Kelly is expected to fix that but can he? After naming Kelly the head coach the 49’ers merchandise department pulled all Colin Kaepernick jerseys from the discount bin. An indication that Kap will remain the quarterback with Kelly taking over.
Kelly should be able to get more ouf Kaepernick given his ability to run the ball. Kelly will install his offense which is a spread version of the West Coast offense and utilizes a fast pace. In Philadelphia players grew tires of the offense mainly because it didn’t have the success Kelly expected. One of those issues was due to play of the quarterback. Kelly traded Nick Foles to the Rams for Sam Bradford but Bradford couldn’t pull off the Kelly offense.
The pieces are not completely in place in San Francisco but Kelly will get a cheap productive running backs in Shaughn Droughn and Carlos Hyde. He will also get back Reggie Bush from injury. Bush could be exceptional in the Kelly passing game.
The 49’ers are hoping that Kelly’s second stint in the NFL lifts the team out of a bad situation that was filled with in-fighting between Jim Harbaugh and Trent Baalke. Baalke quickly turned on Tomsula after last season.
