Dolphins 2015 grades: Bobby McCain
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins had a pretty big 5th round in last April’s draft. Adding four players in round five. Bobby McCain was one of them and due to lack of play by other corners, McCain saw quite a bit of time on the field for a 5th round pick.

The Dolphins had hoped they would have time to develop Bobby McCain in 2015, allowing him instead to make special teams contributions. Instead, Mcain saw 259 snaps against the pass and another 144 against the run. The reason for this was poor play in front of him.
McCain actually grades out better than expected mainly because he was a rookie thrust into a situation that wasn’t really beneficial to him and frankly, he didn’t do that bad of a job despite the statistics. ProFootballFocus graded McCain out at just under 66.7 which really isn’t all that bad for a 5th round rookie. He received a straight 50 against the run and a 67.5 against the pass.
What we don’t know is what McCain will bring to the table. Last season there were some good plays from him and some bad ones but nothing that showed he can be a long term solution at the position. Better coaching this year could bring a lot more out of him and we know that when Lou Anarumo took over the defense for Kevin Coyle, McCain’s play improved. Vance Joseph, a former defensive backs coach is now running the defense and Anarumo is back coaching DB’s. This should help McCain.
In 2015 McCain had 28 total tackles, 23 solo and 5 assists with no interceptions. He was credited with four passes defensed in 2015.
2015 grade – C+
Why C+
McCain gets the grading curve here. He didn’t play horribly bad but he wasn’t always playing better than expected. He was a rookie and he has a lot to learn but his 2015 season wasn’t a complete bust and there is potential in him.
