The Denver Broncos are NFL Champions defeating the Carolina Panthers 24 -10 in Super Bowl 50.

For all the talk of the Carolina offense, it was the Denver defense that completely and without question stole the Super Bowl. Von Miller was electric and while at the time of this writing hasn’t won the Super Bowl MVP award, should by a landslide. He played that well.

The talk of the NFL will of course turn to Peyton Manning who wins his 2nd Super Bowl and now will face an uncertain future but for all accounts tonight will likely be his last game in the NFL. And what a career it was. Tonight didn’t highlight Manning’s career and it wasn’t an exclamation point on it. He was a caretaker who wins a Super Bowl on the shoulders of a stout defense and the legs of a churning C.J. Anderson.

Manning finished the game with no touchdowns, one two point conversion, and 146 yards passing but it was enough.

For the Panthers, it was an anemic offense that did them in. League MVP Cam Newton looked as though he were going through the motions…without any emotion. Newton was confused and stymied by a poweful exceptionally well called defensive game by the Broncos and the leagues number one offense could only generate 10 points on the night and couldn’t come close to scoring despite a very good effort on the part of the Carolina offense that kept the Broncos at bay until the final 2:00 minutes of the game.

The Broncos employed a devasting defense led by impending free agent Von Miller who stripped Newton not once but twice in the game. Two fumbles resulting in touchdowns. It was an all around perfect game for Miller who will likely demand the biggest contract for a linebacker in league history.

Tonight however was about Manning. The caretaker who made mistakes, fumbled the ball, took hits, threw bad passes but still kept the clock churning. Manning should walk away at the pinnacle of his career. He has won more games than any other quarterback in history, 200, the first to reach that mark in combined regular and post-season play.

Tonight the Denver Broncos hoist the Lombary Trophy and Manning will “down a bunch of Budweisers” as he said after the game.

Congratulations Denver, great well played game.
