Now that the NFL off-season is officially underway, the next few months shall get pretty interesting. With free agents set to hit the open market and the NFL draft creeping around the corner, it’ll be interesting to see what Stephen Ross and the Miami Dolphins have planned.

Like nails on a chalkboard, almost every Dolphins offseason in recent memory is as painfully annoying as the last. Since Stephen Ross became majority owner of the Miami Dolphins in 2009, the Dolphins have continually struck out during the offseason. Whether it be overpaying free agents or not being able to reel in top coaches and general managers, the Dolphins have been among the leagues worst during this crucial time.
Whether it is through the draft or in free agency, the Dolphins have a tall task in front of them. Presently, the Dolphins have a number of personnel issues that have plagued them for the past few seasons. New head coach Adam Gase and his staff needs to resurrect the offensive line, specifically at the guard position; they need to find themselves a free safety and depth in the defensive backfield; and most importantly, they need to solidify the defense with playmakers, particularly at the linebacker position.
With so many holes and not a lot of money, it’s unrealistic to think the Dolphins will fill in each one with quality pieces, or pieces who fit for that matter. Because of this, Miami needs to figure out a game plan and stick to it. Where do they start? What positions of need to they deem the most important? These are all questions that Stephen Ross, Mike Tannenbaum and the rest of the Dolphins front office have to figure out within the next few months.
Coming off an offseason where the Dolphins made Ndamukong Suh the richest man in football and rewarded a sub par quarterback with a lucrative contract, Ross might want to learn from past mistakes and keep his wallet in his back pocket this offseason.
