The Miami Dolphins worked out a deal with the Eagles for Byron Maxwell and Kiko Alonso but it looks as though that trade will not happen.

More from Dolphins News

Oh how things can change on a dime. For the last two days the talk in Dolphins circles was the arrival of corner Byron Maxwell and LB Kiko Alonso via trade. The rumored compensation was a simple swap of first round picks. Now that trade appears to be dead.

The reason the trade may have fallen through completely is that Maxwell was unable to pass his physical with the Dolphins who saw a shoulder injury. Could the Dolphins have failed the test in reaction to the fans and media regarding the trade? Not likely but if this is true, the dead trade that is, then the Dolphins will enter free agency needing to fill both positions.

Both players came with concerns related to their play and health. Alonso has been injured two of his last four seasons and Maxwell didn’t play at the level he did in Seattle. Regardless of the compensation, the reality is that Maxwell, who was supposed to be renegotiating his contract with the Dolphins was still going to be a costly cap hit.

The arrival or apparent arrival of Maxwell looked to spell the end of Brent Grimes. It was reported on Monday that the team would part ways with Grimes who refused to take a pay cut. The Dolphins have yet to release him and could opt to keep him although it might be difficult given his wife’s indignant Twitter talk the last two days.

Today is going to be interesting to say the least and this early news doesn’t bode well for the Dolphins despite the question marks that came with the trade.

UPDATE: Several media sources are saying the trade is not off but pending further evaluation of Maxwell’s shoulder.

UPDATE: According to reports Maxwell told Dolphins doctors that he was not able to bench press or do push-ups at his physical. He told the Eagles that he was fine.
