Off-season training activities, or OTA’s officially begin for the Dolphins today and players have arrived at the team’s training facility in Davie, Fl. Today also marks the first time that the playbooks will be handed out on both sides of the ball. While a lot of attention will be paid to the Adam Gase offense, he intends to call his own plays, the defense can not be discounted either.

Vance Joseph makes his debut today as well in front of the team. Hired to be the teams defensive coordinator, Joseph intends to give the Dolphins defense more freedom in the hopes of building a defensive unit that is more physical than previous years.

The Dolphins roster is still in flux as there are holes on both sides of the ball that still need to be addressed. For now, the Dolphins hold eight draft picks with two coming in round seven. They are hoping to add at least three starters from this months draft. Corner-back, offensive guard, and running back appear to be their biggest holes at the moment.

Miami will in turn get their first looks at Mario Williams, Kiko Alonso, and Byron Maxwell. The latter two added via trade with the Eagles ahead of the free agency opening.

Adam Gase however will be the biggest key to the success of this team. Highly touted and respected around the league, Gase is taking over a team that won six games last season and has finished no better than .500 the last several seasons prior to 2015. Many expect the Dolphins offense to be more explosive but also more balanced.

Ryan Tannehill has been reviewing game film of Gase’s time in Denver as well as Chicago and has been working out with his receivers once a week since Gase took over the team. It’s the first time Tannehill has shown that kind of off-season leadership and the Dolphins are hoping that the extra work will pay off.

The Dolphins will begin implementation of the playbooks today and over the course of the next few days before taking time off. It’s the start of the new era officially. Many teams will not begin work until next week but teams with new head coaches are allowed to start early.

The workout today is voluntary but the team believes all of the players will show up. The Dolphins will host another voluntary camp at the end of the month and then again in May and June. The first mandatory camp will be in mid-June with a rookie camp yet to be determined.
