Suh typically spends his off-season working out in Oregon at the Nike training facility. The last time the Dolphins got together in Miami Suh was absent and that caused some in the media to complain and tell other that some on the Dolphins team were not thrilled with his absence. That won’t be the case this go around.
The OTA’s are not open to the public but news of the teams organized activities will spill from the Dolphins facility via the team and the local media. Suh’s arrival alone has been a big storyline early.
Miami made Suh the highest paid defensive player when the signed him to kick-off free agency in 2015. His production on the field left many to question whether Miami bought an all-pro or a threw money at a strip club. Early in the season Suh struggled.
The first four games of 2015 were not what the Dolphins had hoped for and while Suh was a part of that defense, things changed after the firing of Joe Philbin and Kevin Coyle. Suh was unhappy with the defensive schemes being run by the former DC. After he was replaced, the Dolphins defense got better but could not come close to the expectations they entered the season with.
If there was indeed internal locker room whining as a result of Suh being in Oregon the last time the team got together then his arrival this week should quell some of that notion. The players that did speak openly to the media the last time around did not say publicly that Suh not being with the team was a problem. Adam Gase addressed the issue saying he was only worried about mandatory camps.
"“It’s hard for me to ever get upset with anything that’s voluntary.” Gase told WQAM a week ago."
This weeks OTA’s are voluntary so it’s a good sign for the Dolphins that Suh has opted to attend at least the start of the practice sessions. He may not stick around for the entire time. Mandatory mini-camp takes place in June.
