Cornerback: Jordan Lucas
The Miami Dolphins selected Jordan Lucas in the draft this offseason to create depth and competition at the corner position. With two corner positions up for grabs this offseason, Miami added players that they thought would create competition and possibly win the starting jobs. Lucas fits the body type that Defensive Coordinator Vance Joseph looks for in cornerbacks. At 6’0” and 200 lbs, Lucas can be physical at the line of scrimmage and play the press coverage scheme that Miami is implementing.

2015 Review
Jordan Lucas switched positions from cornerback to safety in his senior year. He was physical enough to provide run support from he safety position and also to provide coverage in nickel packages. Lucas showed the desire and ability to blitz the quarterback and get sacks. Lucas showed leadership ability at the safety position in calling the defense and was a leader in tackling in the secondary.
Lucas was injured in his senior year and was only able to play in nine games. Although Lucas is not looked at as a very athletic corner, he showed the physical ability that allowed him to move from the corner position to the safety position. Lucas was a leader for Penn State and was productive in the time he had on the field in his senior year.
2015 Stats
Played in nine games with 56 tackles, two and a half for loss, one sack, three passes defended, and one fumble forced
2016 Preview
Jordan Lucas’s experience at cornerback and safety will be valuable to the Dolphins because they love versatility in players. He has leadership ability and the attitude that the Dolphins front office is looking for. However, he is in a crowded corner position and will have to fight for playing time. He has to show that he can use his size and frame to jam receivers at the line in Vance Joseph’s press coverage scheme.
Joseph will likely be a reserve and backup at the nickel corner position. He will be competing against veteran players like Bobby McCain and Tyler Patmon and will struggle to see playing time. This will be a developmental season for Lucas and his best opportunity to see the field will be in reserve, quarter packages, and special teams.
2016 Predicted Stats
10 tackles and one pass defended.
