The Miami Dolphins have two starting cornerback positions up for grabs and Bobby McCain is a leader for one of them. The Dolphins expect McCain to be a playmaker in their secondary at the nickel corner position.

Cornerback: Bobby McCain

Bobby McCain was drafted to be a competitor at the cornerback position last season. He showed enough promise last season to play in all 16 games and even start in four of them. McCain’s greatest contribution last season was at the nickel corner position. He showed flashes of ability but also struggled at times like most rookies do. McCain is the leader for the Dolphins nickel corner position this offseason.

2015 Review

Last season Bobby McCain was thrown into action early as one of the team’s nickel corners. Due to the Dolphins weak secondary, Brice McCain normally a nickel corner, was asked to play one of the perimeter corner positions. That gap allowed for younger players to have the chance to step in and get playing time. Bobby McCain earned the opportunity to showcase his ability and played in every game for the Dolphins.

McCain was a bright spot in the Dolphins secondary last season and showed why they drafted him. He was a good option for Miami at the nickel position and made a number of plays over the season. Although he struggled at times, most rookies do and need time to develop and get accustomed to NFL speed and talent level. McCain overall was a success for Miami last season and has the ability to grow into a very good corner in the future.

2015 Stats

McCain played in 16 games last season and started four with 28 tackles and four passes defended.

2016 Preview

Bobby McCain is the leader in becoming the Dolphins nickel cornerback. Although he will have to compete with other young players like Jordan Lucas, Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, and Tyler Patmon, McCain has shown enough in his play to be the starter at the positions in OTA’s and minicamp practices. McCain struggled at times last season and showed his inexperience in rookie mistakes but seems to have been working hard this offseason and is ready to step into a full time role.

McCain should continue being a playmaker and should be the Dolphins nickel corner come gameday. He should see the field a lot due to the nature of the game and many teams deploying three wide receivers most of the time. McCain should be one of the strongest competitors for Miami this season and will have the opportunity to make many plays.

2016 Predicted Stats

Start 16 games with 45 tackles, 1 interception, and 16 passes defended
