Two years removed from a Pro-Bowl season in 2014, Foster has spent as much time off the field as he has on it. Foster missed 12 games last season, 8 games in 2013, and two games in 2014 with injuries.
The Dolphins had tried earlier in the off-season to add a veteran running back to compliment starter Jay Ajayi and provide competition in the back-field during training camp and pre-season.
Miami had spoken with Foster and his agent a few months ago but Foster was not ready to pass a physical as he was still rehabbing from last years injury. He met with the team a second time on Monday.
The Dolphins have made no official announcement but Foster’s agent “Tweeted” that his client had landed a one year deal with Miami.
The Dolphins will now head into camp with an extra running back who will now compete with Daniel Thomas, Damien Williams, and Isaiah Pead for a roster spot. Foster will also compete with his own body to stay healthy.
While originally the thought of Foster joining the Dolphins wasn’t entirely appealing, there is an obvious need for a runner who potentially could return to form from only two seasons ago. The risk on Foster is negligible while the potential production could be big.
If there is a bit of irony to the signing of Foster, it was at Miami last year that Foster tore his Achilles on a non-contact red-zone play in what would be one of the largest blowout wins for the Dolphins in history.
On that play, Foster was split to the left in motion and turned upfield at the snap but after two steps fell directly to the ground.
