Byron Maxwell, Cornerback

Probably the weakest position group on the Dolphins roster is cornerback. Other than Reshad Jones at safety, the entire secondary is a question mark.

Miami acquired Byron Maxwell from the Philadelphia Eagles, and now Maxwell is projected to be Miami’s No. 1 corner. Behind Maxwell is a rookie in Xavien Howard, two second-year unknowns in Bobby McCain and Tony Lippett, and Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, who has yet to play a down in the NFL because of a gruesome injury in college.

Maxwell struggled mightily in Philadelphia’s defense, but he also fits the mold of what defensive coordinator Vance Joseph looks for in a defensive back. He looked like a legitimate NFL corner while surrounded by talent in Seattle, however, he has shown little of that legitimacy outside the Legion of Boom.

With Maxwell, Dolphins fans can at least be happy that the corners won’t be playing 10 yards off the line of scrimmage.
