The positive thing about Dion Jordan’s situation
By Josh Pickett
Dion Jordan’s career to this point has been full of surprises and disappointment. Fans like me are understandably frustrated with how we may never get to see what Jordan really has, but this Dolphins team is not counting on him to get it together.
After news originally broke about Dion Jordan’s season long suspension last year, most Dolphins fans had written him off for good and wished him farewell. Following a 6-10 season, and a decade mostly filled with mediocrity we are flat out tired of being let down.
It almost seems like this Dion Jordan injury news is a punch to the mouth right in time to the fan base and the organization. But while we are all looking for any reason to get excited about the upcoming season the front office has us staring down the barrel of another sub 500. record.

- 4 offensive tackles Miami Dolphins could draft at 51
- Miami Dolphins don’t need CB help but these 5 could be available at 51
- 4 players that could replace Wilkins if Miami Dolphins don’t re-sign him
- Miami Dolphins have a starting point with Wilkins after Simmons deal
Yes we are rebuilding. Yes it will take time to consistently win again. I understand these things. But with the case of Dion Jordan we were ready to cling to something positive. An immediate victory.
We want to see Dion resurrect himself and become the player we all hoped he would be and overcome the obstacles he has faced (mainly himself) and finally shut all of those Dolphin hating trolls up about how Dion Jordan is a bust.
But once again Dion’s exciting latest news of coming back from suspension, was instantly dampened by being unable to participate due to a knee injury which robbed that small victory from us. It was only three years ago he was filled with promise and drafted 3rd overall.
Similarly enough 3 years ago, he was unable to join the team in training camp due to a severe injury he had while in college and quickly fell behind the learning curve. It destroyed any trust the coaches needed in order to let him play meaningful snaps during the majority of that season. While he is no longer that promising new prospect, he will still be unable to impress a new coach while standing on the sidelines watching the team move forward without him.

This is where the good news kicks in. Unlike 3 years ago this coaching staff and organization are not counting on getting anything at all from Dion Jordan. And so far they have not been pleasantly disappointed.
While Dion Jordan was suspended Dolphins GM Mike Tannenbaum was very non-committal to anything related to Dion Jordan and since Jordan has been reinstated Head Coach Adam Gase has said nothing to make us believe he is expecting Jordan to make any kind of impact whatsoever.
Instead, Coach Gase basically said the opposite stating Jordan was at “step one of like 500” in regards to the team. So while our frustration as fans continues with Dion Jordan, just know that this Miami Dolphins franchise is in no way at all depending on Dion Jordan.
The moves they made in the offseason were as if Dion Jordan did not exist and the results of this team moving forward are completely independent from Jordan. Once we realize that then we understand that anything at all from him besides headaches, and bust jokes following every article covering him is a victory.
It is expected for Jordan to make the team based on flashes of talent mainly from his time at Oregon and the fact that Miami would not even gain cap relief by releasing him. Once we accept the sad state of Dion Jordan’s career we will begin to finally make peace that even the smallest amount of anything at all from him at this point is a win for the Dolphins.
