Good Dolphins win, but will it matter in the long-term?

On a weekend where the Dolphins beat the mighty Steelers, fans are left wondering whether it is safe to get back on the bandwagon.

The Dolphins beat the Steelers this weekend in a game that featured all of the elements that fans were hoping for when the season started:

• Major pass rushing from Cameron Wake and company, who harassed Ben Roethlisberger all day, and knocked him out of half of the game with a knee injury;
• Kiko Alonso and the linebackers shutting down Le’Veon Bell, while “The Embattled Byron Maxwell” batted down four passes and held Antonio Brown in check.
• Mike Pouncey and the rest of the starting offensive line paved the way for over 200 yards rushing by Jay Ajayi.
• Ryan Tannehill made one of the best plays of his career, on a play where Mike Pouncey was pushed back into his lap, Tannehill bought time by scrambling out to his left and firing a 53-yard strike to backup tight end MarQueis Gray.  A play later, Tannehill rolled out to his right and threw a touchdown pass to another backup tight end, Dominique Jones.  While the touchdown was called back due to an illegal formation penalty, it showed off the mobile accuracy of our quarterback.

The entire team was balling out, just clicking on all cylinders.

Obviously the question now becomes, can they do it again?  Or was it just a tease, similar to last year’s blowout wins over Tennessee and Houston following the hiring of Dan Campbell as interim coach?

The victory was sweet, but now, upon news that star safety Reshad Jones has an injured shoulder that may keep him off the field for the rest of the season, it remains to be seen whether the Dolphins have turned the corner. (On another note, for the sake of team morale, and out of fairness, the Dolphins need to pay Jones his money, now.  He has been the best player on the team this year, and maybe last year as well, and there is no reason to let him become a free agent.  Make him a Dolphin for life!)

Next week against the Buffalo Bills will let us know whether this past Sunday showed us the real Dolphins, or merely a fleeting mirage.
