According to multiple reports Jarvis Landry has signed his franchise tag guaranteeing himself at least a $15.9 million salary for 2018.

The Miami Dolphins can no longe rescind their franchise tag they placed on Jarvis Landry. A short while ago, a very short while ago, we wrote about the Dolphins and Landry saga continuing but in a matter of moments, that has changed once again.

The question now is what does this mean for the Dolphins and Jarvis Landry? Here is what could happen next.

1: The Dolphins can no longer rescind the tag so they are on the hook for $16 million for the 2018 season.

2: The Dolphins and Landry could work out a new contract extension. They have until July 16 to get one done. Despite the blood that has spilled over the last month, business is business for both the team and the player.

3: The Dolphins could trade Landry. If the team trades Landry, Landry would not have to negotiate a new deal with that team if he does not desire but he can also not block a trade by asking for a lot more money than he already is. It would be up to that team to take on the negotiations for a new salary.

4: Landry will sill be able to market himself during free agency. The tag is not exclusive. If Landry is wooed by another team during free agency and signs a contract agreement the Dolphins will be able to decide if they want to match. If they do not the other team will forfeit two first round draft picks for Landry. This is not likely to happen.

5: The Dolphins will sit on Landry for the 2018 season with Landry becoming a free agent in 2019 barring a trade or a new contract.

Both sides have a lot to lose and gain in this tag being signed. While nothing appears imminent on a trade, Landry would have needed to sign the tag before he could be traded, a trade could still happen. That would be in the best interest for both sides if they are unable or unwilling to work out a long term deal.

Landry is risking his future by playing on the tag, even at $16 million. An injury will drop his stock for 2019 and there is always a potential for a career type injury. With the tag being signed the only thing that has changed as of today is the fact that Miami will not be able to release him ahead of the league new year or rescind the tag.

The next chapter in this saga is about to begin.
