Dolphins look to be in “win-now” mode rather than building

The Miami Dolphins should be rebuilding their team and building that team for the near future but instead it appears that they may be trying to win now instead.

If the Dolphins are indeed trying to “win-now” rather than build for the future than it could be an indication that the teams executives of Mike Tannenbaum and Chris Grier are facing pressure and potential job status. Which also means Adam Gase wouldn’t be far behind.

The reality is this team is not built to win now they are not built to win in 2019 either. They lack major pieces in a run for the post-season and one critical piece is a big question mark. Ryan Tannehill.

Any potential win-now scenario has to start with the quarterback and Miami would be out of their minds to think they can win this season on a returning Tannehill who has missed all of one season and a quarter of another. To say nothing of the possibility that his knee is re-injured the second he walks or jogs onto the practice field.

So if the Dolphins are planning a run now, we can end that talk with Tannehill. It’s poor planning on the Dolphins part. It’s not that they believe in his return or his ability it would mean they are spending money around him to support him and that is risky as well.

The offensive line has been a mess for the last five or six years and that should change this year but then again we have said that every year. The Dolphins are confident in the play of Jesse Davis at guard or tackle but appear ready to move on from Ja’Wuan James. That is a hole. The left guard spot is still a hole and Laremy Tunsil isn’t exactly playing up to his draft status. Yet. Then of course there is Mike Pouncey.

If the Dolphins are indeed trying to make a push this year, Pouncey will stay in Miami. They won’t find a cohesive free agent to join the team for cheaper. Drafting a center is building for the future so keep an eye on that.

Linebackers are also a big problem for the Dolphins but again, if the Dolphins are trying to win now then expect a big push in free agency for a guy like Zach Brown or another top linebacker on the market.

Rumors continue to build that the Dolphins plan to be active in the free agency market that opens on Wednesday. If true then the Dolphins are indeed hoping to get a winning team on the field this year because fee spending does nothing but cripple your cap space later when you either have already won and can dice it up or you are alreay fired and then it’s someone elses problem.

This is why Miami’s offseason is critical this year. How they approach it can be a clear indication on what they believe the future holds for the team, but more importantly their careers.
