The Miami Dolphins traded for C.J. Anderson at the start of free agency and then backed out. Denver is now releasing the runner and the Dolphins may be interested.

According to a report from Mike Garafolo the Broncos will release the talented runner, the NFL also released a Tweet confirming the news.

The Dolphins had agreed to trade RT Ja’Wuan James to the Broncos for Anderson but backed out of the deal and opted to keep James. Now they have another shot at landing Anderson. A Gase favorite. It wouldn’t be the first time Miami tried to obtain Anderson.

In 2016 the Dolphins signed Anderson to a free agent contract but the Broncos matched the offer. Anderson is entering the third year of a contract that was brokered by the Dolphins. Is the third time a charm for Miami?

It is not guaranteed that Miami will look Anderson’s way.

The Dolphins, after backing out of the deal, signed free agent running back Frank Gore to a one year contract. They also have Kenyan Drake in the fold who broke out in the second half of the 2017 season. Adding Anderson now would be a luxury that Miami may not want to take advantage of.

If the Dolphins do sign Anderson it is safe to say that runnning back will be off the table in next weekends draft. In any round. Miami would enter the season very strong at the position. Last year Anderson rushed for over 1,000 yards, the first time in his career.

One possibility will be that the Dolphins opt to wait until after the draft to look at Anderson and see what might be on the table for them in the draft. This years crop of running backs is deep and it’s good. Miami has shown interest in several runners including Sony Michel of Georgia.

Anderson has a history with Gase who coached him his last season in Denver before leaving for Chicago with John Fox. It will be interesting to see what level of interest Miami now has. Stay tuned!
