Miami Dolphins get Bryce Petty off waivers from Jets
By Brian Miller
The Miami Dolphins have finally added that quarterback so many fans wanted. The team was awarded Bryce Petty off waivers.
After drafting Sam Darnold with the third overall pick in last months draft, the QB stacked Jets needed to purge the unit and Bryce Petty was left off the team’s future plans. Miami was awarded the quarterback off waivers and announced the move.
Petty was the odd man out in a position group that included Darnold, Christian Hackenberg, and Teddy Bridgewater. The Dolphins will see if Petty can earn a roster spot in training camp behind Ryan Tannehill and Brock Osweiller. He will compete with David Fales.
Petty is best known to Dolphins fans as the quarterback sandwich between Ndamukong Suh and Cameron Wake.
Petty has seven starts in his two NFL seasons, all with the Jets. He has four touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft and spent the first season on the practice squad.

Once asked by a Twitter user if he had nightmares about Wake, Petty responded that he didn’t have nightmares but always paused for a moment of silence when he eats a sandwich. He will be teammates for now.
The 26-year-old Baylor product has just over 1300 yards passing and has been sacked 21 times over his career in the NFL.
Petty will not find an easy path to the Dolphins roster. Barring an injury, Petty will face tough competition for the third quarterback spot behind Tannehill and Osweiller. He will be competing with David Fales. The Dolphins released Brandon Doughty a former 7th round pick this off-season. Miami seems to like what they have seen in Fales but not enough to give him the back-up job just yet.
