New Miami Dolphins safety Minkah Fitzpatrick will continue wearing the number 29 as he wore in college. Here is the history of that number in Miami.

Like Mike Gesicki, first round draft pick Minkah Fitzpatrick will keep his college number as he enters the NFL. The Dolphins handed out jerseys to their rookie class on Thursday as the team opened their first camp of the off-season.

For the first time all of the rookie class and the undrafted rookies were able to get into the training facility together and start working towards the 2018 season. Fitzpatrick will be the 15th player to don the number 29 and he will have some big shoes to fill.

Sam Madison – 1997 – 2005

Sam Madison is one of the most loved former Miami Dolphins players in team history. He approachable and loves to talk about his time in Miami with any fan that wants to ask him. On the field, Madison was a top shut-down corner who formed a formidable secondary with Patrick Surtain.

Madison to this day keeps ties with the team and often does work in some capacity with the Dolphins, formerly hosting their radio show, Finsiders with other alumni and a lead host. Of all the players who have worn 29, Madison stands out as the best.

Liffort Hobley – 1987 – 1993

Hobley was a solid secondary player for the Miami Dolphins. He totaled two interceptions and eight fumble recoveries. Two of those went for touchdowns. Hobley was a hard hitter and while he never posted the statistical INT stats, he was a solid corner in an era when the NFL became a pass happy league.
